Should you join Beachbody? As a Beachbody coach, the easy answer would be a resounding ‘YES’, but I know it’s not that easy. Life’s choices are a little more complicated. At least it was for me.
Almost three years ago I was laying on my bed crying (yup, not exactly the most enjoyable start to a story). I was tired of work, tired of grief and straight up tired of being tired.
My son had passed away four years earlier and as anyone who’s been through loss knows, this grief business doesn’t just go away after ___ time has passed. Sure it goes in waves and sometimes the waves are more infrequent. But sometimes the waves can smack you upside the head when you’re not looking. This was one of those times.
My husband came into the room and found me there, sad. Being the supportive guy that he is, he asked what he could do for me.
How could he help me?
And that was when I realized, he couldn’t help me at all. Sure, a hug and a pep talk could get me through this current rough patch, but I wanted something to get me through this one, and the next one and the one after that.
I needed to find a way to help myself.
I didn’t want this burden for my husband all of the time. And I was so tired of feeling helpless.
What tools could give ME the power to have control over these emotions?
I had seen a friend posting workouts and encouragement on Facebook. She had reached out to me a few times, asking if I’d like to join her. I politely declined, but couldn’t help but be inspired by her desire to do something positive for herself AND while still helping others. I mean, encouragement is infectious, right?
I reached out to her and asked what I could do to get in on the action. Alright that sounds more positive than it actually was. I was really thinking, how do I sign-up because I feel like I’m running out of options and I’m tired of feeling bad about myself and this crying business is exhausting.
Already, with this one action, I felt better.
I made a freakin decision!
Just feeling like I set something in motion for myself – my choice – had me feeling hopeful.
I signed up to be a preferred customer in 2017 (because discounts also make me feel better) and I’m so glad that I did!
So several years into these programs, here are the many ways that Beachbody has benefited my life:
- Helps me to manage my emotions
- Gets me up and moving
- Opens the door to new friendships
- Provides me with daily encouragement
- Improved self confidence
- Weight loss
- More muscle strength
- Changed my relationship with food
- Has me feeling focused and driven
- Setting a great example for my kids
- Improved relationship with my husband
- Better outlook on the everyday stresses
- Gives me the routine and structure I crave
- Provides me with a solution to help others
- Keeps me learning (personal development)
This was my story. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it to be yours too.
It is possible to get out of your own head for at least 25-60 minutes a day. And it can set something in motion (pun intended) that could change many other areas of your life – like it did mine.
