B-R-E-A-D. Bread. I was driving my kids to school the other morning and they wanted to show off their spelling skills. Although I was very impressed with my daughter’s vocabulary, I thought it was only fitting that the one word she wanted to carelessly waive around the vehicle was ‘Bread’. Then my son chimes in. N-O spells No. Put em together and what do you have…No Bread! Sigh. A not so subtle reminder of a key food I can’t have while on a candida cleanse. So what CAN I have you ask. Here is a day in the life, sample menu:
Breakfast:
Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake
1 Tbl Coconut Oil
1 Cup Spinach
3-5 strawberries (I use frozen)
1 scoop protein powder
1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
Water and ice to your liking for consistency
Snack:
6 carrots
12 Almonds
Lunch:
1 Cup of squash (any variety)
3 oz of white meat chicken
½ an avocado
Snack:
6 carrots
1 egg, 17 almonds or 1 hard boiled egg
Dinner:
3 spears of broccoli
3 oz Lemon Garlic Chicken (made in the instant pot for the win!)
And let’s not forget 2 cups of cabbage broth. I look at this as my replacement for coffee and tea. Yup, that’s a stretch beyond the wildest imagination, but I’m committed to this, so please, go with it.
Grocery Store Necessities for a Candida Cleanse:
Produce:
Broccoli | Onions |
Cabbage | Carrots (small and large) |
Bunch of Kale | Ginger root |
Head of Cabbage | Avocados |
Peppers (sweet or regular) | Spinach |
Zucchini / Squash | Cauliflower |
Strawberries | Asparagus |
Cucumbers | Brussel Sprouts |
Almonds (I’m sticking with roasted and salted)
Unsweetened Almond Milk
Braggs Amino (soy sauce substitute)
Chicken (breast or trimmed thighs – I’ve been using the ready to serve rotisserie for lunch servings)
I have made two grocery store trips and one Amazon order and though there may be slight variations to the list above, based on the week’s menu plan, these are staples. Keep in mind that I am doing all of this with the direction of a registered dietician. I can only share my experience with the program that has been outlined for my body and my needs.
And how have all of these changes made me feel? Coming up next, I’ll share the first week of the cleanse. The emotional and physical reactions are real people. To help with my focus and understand the theories/science behind what I’m doing (by saying goodbye to wheat for 30 days), I’ve started reading Wheat Belly. An interesting read – lots of science talk with a little bit of humor mixed in.

I’m so curious to see how this all works out for you! I was reading your previous post and the comment about how you eat now to feel better (rather than just to look better :)) really resonated with me. Using food as fuel for our bodies to help them function most effectively… not a new concept, but for some reason took until I was 39 to figure out! Good luck and I can’t wait to hear how it all goes! <3
