- The kids are up early on a Saturday which means you have a few hours before swim lessons start. Yessssss! So sit down and enjoy your cup of coffee. You have plenty of time before you have to jump in the shower and wrestle the kids into their suits.
- Go ahead and feel accomplished about getting a few things done around the house. Pick tasks that take no time at all. You’ll feel better accomplished heading into the weekend. Change a load of laundry, wipe down the kitchen counter, feed the dogs, make your bed, get everyone some breakfast so they’re energized for their lesson ahead. Oh crap, what time is it?
- Quickly jump in the shower. How did this happen? You have 30 minutes to rinse off, load up the swim supplies, put the dogs outside and get everyone in the car. You can do this. The most important thing is to stay calm. It’s just a swim lesson. That you paid a pretty penny for. Screw it…”Everyone better be in their swimsuits by the time I get outta the shower! Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
- Before you can even rinse off from the shower, your kids are standing on the shower door mat (you’re correct, it’s not supposed to have an occupancy of three people). Your daughter is tangled up in her bathing suit straps which now looks like a summer straight jacket, and your son is attempting to poke holes through the mesh lining of his swim trunks, because, well, why not?
- Rush everyone to the bathroom for teeth and hair brushing. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done. You’re starting to question if the droplets running down your back are shower water, or newly formed sweat beads. Scramble to the car and arrive only five minutes late to the lesson. Is it possible to not look disheveled as you swing open the door to the pool? Nope. With one last panicked breath you reach into the swim bag to grab the goggles. Which are at home in the bath. You grab some loaners from the swim school and vow to get the timing right next weekend.

Loved this post!! I can totally relate. The boys did swimming lessons for a few months, and they were mid week in the evening. It was a mad rush to log off from work with time to pick them up, feed them something (maybe dinner maybe goldfish crackers??), get them into swim shorts and out the door. We borrowed goggles more times than I can remember, and I am happy to know that forgetting them in the bathtub is a thing ? You know…because practicing swimming at home is serious business.
